It also seems light enough that I could easily bring it along to band practices and set it up fairly quickly to record. Any feedback from model 12 users would be really helpful.

The specs are quite confusing, but I think it exposes all the channels to a DAW, but can only receive two channels from the computer for playback purposes. Ditto the 12 which I think exposes them all, but can playback 4.

Apr 9, 2021 · I’m waiting on Tascam’s Model 12. It works as a multitrack recorder, interface and DAW controller. It has midi in and out connections. originally had bought Tascam Model 24 , but this one and the Model 16 don’t have the DAW controller capabilities nor the midi in/outs.

Aug 1, 2022 · The only MIDI function the Model 12 performs natively (aside from messages sent in DAW control surface mode) is Clock Out, so the MIDI out is truly an OUT. Upshot is that you cannot sync the Model 12 to an outside clock, although you can sync outside devices like drum machines and sequencers to the Model 12 (as master).

Meaning I can assign the MPC tracks to separate channels on the mixer with the mode USB and also have my microphones connected to the mixer as mode LIVE input.
