Creating a concrete mix with smooth texture
Apr 7, 2016 · I would like to create a small concrete table(~.5m diameter). To do so, I would like to create a concrete mix with smooth texture, similar to Quikrete. Since this product is not available where I live, I was wondering what is the mixture I should use to create the concrete. It's properties should be smoothness (no coarse aggregate), and durability.

Nov 8, 2020 · It looks pretty good actually, since if the concrete will be covered, no need to bother with the extra work of making it smooth, all you need is to not have bumps. Tiles will cover roughness and holes just fine. If some aggregates stick out and the tiles stand on them, just smash the aggregates out of the concrete with a hammer.

May 20, 2016 · It doesn't need to be sheet-of-ice smooth, but smooth enough that it wouldn't, say, skin a knee if bumped. My assumption at this point is that the pro concrete guys probably lay down standard concrete, but then do the top 2 inches or so with something smoother, like a mortar or cement mix without gravel or pebbles.

Nov 11, 2020 · This means at one side, the concrete may have a a height of 3 inches, and the other, 1mm. I've put down a bonding agent, I've mixed the concrete, spread it out and of course, with stones/pebbles over 1mm high, I can't get it smooth/low enough enough in height. I don't understand why there are these bigger stones in the mix.

Apr 26, 2022 · I did the same thing with my block retaining walls. You are right on track with your idea to skim coat and use a sponge float. You can use any cement mixture without aggregate - either a sand mix or a mortar/stucco mix. The procedure is pretty simple. Apply the skim coat and trowel it relatively smooth.

Adding more water and mixing will possibly make it smooth again, but all those bonds that have started to form will be broken apart and will not form again.

The concrete probably already has some type of sealer on it. A less labor intensive approach would be to buy a gallon of H&C Clear Oil-Based Concrete Sealer and add a container of Skid Tex to it. Buy a simple rolling pan, a 1/2" nap roller cover and a roller frame with a handle.

Mar 9, 2016 · The simplest solution to get a smooth wall is to attach furring strips to the concrete and then drywall to that. You'll spend a fraction of the time and have a much better resulting look than trying to skim coat the entire wall and hoping for good adhesion.
