The safest bets in my opinion are Stronghold 1, Stronghold Crusader 1 and Stronghold 2. Stronghold 1 is the first classic with a solid story-based single player campaign and some side-content for you to enjoy on your own, plus what I believe is the strongest atmosphere in the series. Mar 5, 2021 · Stronghold HD (+ Crusader) are the best games of entire franchise. Stronghold 2 is 3D and has some gameplay enchancements which some may call questionable and unnecessary. It would be the best to watch letsplays of original Stronghold and Stronghold 2 and choose what do you like to see more. 2D sprite graphics or 3D... graphics, or whatever it is.

Mar 21, 2020 · Crusader 2 is a 3D game, and it focuses entirely on Skirmish. With that said, there are mini skirmish trails instead of one big campaign. While it greatly streamlines and simplifies economy through gold (it is much harder to attain in this game), it also feels slower. Story is non-existent and the characters only communicate through one-liners.

Oct 17, 2019 · Stronghold is a castle builder with a deeper economy than most other titles, such as AoE. If you enjoy more of the building aspect of strategy games, this is where it's start. I generally recommend the original, Crusader, and 2 in that order. If you're in to multiplayer, though, Crusader is where it's at. AoE is more about the real time battles.
