Aug 26, 2015 · A Flow Chart (also known as a Process Flow Diagram or Process Map) is a diagram of the steps in a process and their sequence. Two types of flow charts are utilized in quality improvement.
What Is a Flowchart? A diagram that uses graphic symbols to depict the nature and flow of the steps in a process. FLOWCHART VIEWGRAPH 2 Benefits of Using Flowcharts • Promote process understanding • Provide tool for training • Identify problem areas and improvement opportunities • Depict customer-supplier relationships
The Process Flow Diagram •Shows the flow of process and the equipment involved in the process. •Shows the relationships between the major components minus the details. • Are sometimes used for visitor information and new employee training. Version - 1.0, January 2019 Process Flow / Instrumentation Drawings 11
Process Flowsheet (or Flow Diagram) Development. The flowsheet is the key document in process design. It shows the arrangement of the equipment selected to carry out the process; the stream connections; stream flow rates and compositions; and the operating conditions. Types of PFD (process flow diagram)
Goals – Improve Process by: • Reduce number of steps • Rearrange steps • Reduce cost of individual steps • Reduce handling • Combine steps • Shorten moves • Make moves cheaper • Reduce in process inventory
A process flow diagram provides a method of defining the steps in a process. It helps get agreement on what the process steps are. It is also easier to see where a process can be measured or improved when looking at a process flow diagram. A process flow diagram helps identify and eliminate waste. In this issue:

The Process Flow Diagram (PFD) Results from process simulations Depicts the various Equipment within a Process (or Utility) Unit and their sequence Shows the process controls The individual drawing item of the PFD is the Equipment Item
A process flow chart is an instrument that visualises and analyses the various systems and procedures (e.g. delivery of services, decision-making, funds allocation, accounting and monitoring) within an organisation.
