Home-made fire clay? - Solid Fuel Forges - I Forge Iron
Jul 13, 2009 · Is it possible to make home-made fire clay? That is, mix it with stuff you dig out of the ground? If so, what type of earth should I be looking for? I live in Austin, Texas. Thanks, Rob

Mar 7, 2012 · I clay my pans. I used chunks of broken up firebricks and refactory mortor in my main forge, and a sand mortor mix i the travel forge. I did this mainly to make a "fire pot" in the travel forge. You can also use cheap kitty litter ( mostly clay ) and a small amount of water.

Sep 16, 2018 · This is a good way to make clinker with a charcoal fire. If you already have the fire clay use it, if not buy something cheaper or take shovel to a likely place and adopt a bucket. Same for the sand if you already bought the silica use it, if not find a creek or beach, take a couple buckets. The ratio of 1 pt. clay to 3-4 pts sand is good enough.
