  1. The guidelines for organic labeling are as follows12:
    • Products sold, labeled, or represented as organic must have at least 95 percent certified organic content.
    • Products sold, labeled, or represented as “made with” organic must have at least 70 percent certified organic content.
    • Products containing less than 70 percent organic content may identify specific ingredients as organic in the ingredients list.
    • Organic products must be made with at least 95% organically produced ingredients.
    • The remainder can consist of ingredients that are on the USDA’s National List of Allowed Substances so long as they meet certain other criteria, including not GMO.
    • The label may also state the percentage of organic ingredients.
    • The name of the certifying agent must appear on packages.
    • Use of the USDA Organic Seal is optional.
    Packaging materials must not contain synthetic fungicides, preservatives, or fumigants3. Reused packaging must be sanitized and prevent contamination/residues3.
