Is there a safe clearance for walking in aisles in which vehicles operate? Are materials and equipment stored so sharp objects do not obstruct the walkway? Are changes of direction or elevation easily identified?

Twenty-eight inches is the minimum width for any walkway leading to an exit. The door must at least equal the passageway width if there is only one passageway.

Vertical clearance above any stair tread to any overhead obstruction is at least 6 feet, 8 inches (203 cm), as measured from the leading edge of the tread. Spiral stairs must meet the vertical clearance requirements in paragraph (d)(3) of this section.
