  1. The “T2000” model’s design was invented by former player René Lacoste in the early 1960s, who licensed his patented designs to Wilson. The “T2000” was introduced in September 1967 and last produced in 1984. Though Billie Jean King used the model in the late 1960s, it was Jimmy Connors who popularized the racquet as he played with it for 18 years.

    But it started in 1953, when Frenchman René Lacoste came up with a design for a metal racket, patenting it that same year. Wilson later acquired the rights to it and in 1967, players grew intrigued enough by the Wilson-made T2000 that it showed up in tournaments. It made its first appearance in the Wilson catalog in 1969.
