Other than Viking royalty, there were three classes of people that comprised Norse society: The aristocracy, or upper class, which were known as the Jarls The working class, who had full freedom and protection under Norse law, known as the Karls The lowest class, who were slaves with no recognized rights, who were known as the Thralls

A group of Vikings is called a “clan.” A clan is composed of numerous families who are linked through common ancestry, culture, or language. Clans served as the primary social and political units in Viking society. They were responsible for allocating land and resources, settling disputes, and forging alliances with other clans.

Viking society was stratified into three classes: jarls, karls, and thralls.

The Viking culture was Scandinavian, with society divided into three classes, the Jarls (aristocracy), Karls (lower class), and Thralls (slaves).

The enslaved people were at the bottom of the hierarchy, also known as Thralls. Next came the Karls, the middle class, and the farmers and tradespeople. Above them were the Jarls, followed by the Royals, the highest of Viking society.
