Instead, you could say something like: “You’re in our thoughts” “With our deepest condolences” “Our heart goes out to you” “Please accept our condolences” Leave an address so that the bereaved can reach you if they wish to get in contact.

Things to Say to Someone in Grief: I can’t imagine what you’re going through. I’m so sorry for your loss. I don’t know what to say, I wish I had the right words to comfort you. You, your family and your loved one will be in my thoughts and prayers.

You could say: I am so sorry, is there anything I can do to help? I don’t know what to say but I am here to help in anyway I can. I am only a phone call away if you need anything Or say nothing – if it feels right maybe give a hug or just sit together.
