    Actor Chuck Connors, the fast-shooting Lucas McCain on the long-running television series "The Rifleman," died Tuesday of lung cancer. He was 71. Connors, who appeared in at least 28 movies, died in Cedars-Sinai Medical Center a week after he was admitted, said hospital spokesman Ron Wise.
    Chuck Connors, who gained fame as the tough, gun-toting single father on the long-running television series “The Rifleman,” died yesterday in Los Angeles of lung cancer. He was 71. Connors, a two-sport professional athlete in the days before Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders, also appeared in at least 28 movies.
    Born in 1921, Chuck Connors is best remembered for his role of Lucas McCain on The Rifleman, which aired on ABC from 1958-1963. The pilot was originally an episode of Zane Grey Theatre written by Sam Peckinpah. Connors acted in Hollywood for 40 years. He died of lung cancer on November 10, 1992.
