Violent clashes have broken out in Pakistan between security forces and supporters of former prime minister Imran Khan after he was arrested on Tuesday. Protests are erupting nationwide, and at least one person has been killed in the city of Quetta.

There have been protests in several major cities after security forces detained the former prime minister, Imran Khan, and took him away in a security vehicle. Khan supporters shut down roads and staged demonstrations outside military installations. That's a rare scene in Pakistan. And authorities shut down Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

At least 39 people have been killed in Pakistan after days of unusually heavy rains battered the country's southwest. Some of those killed were farmers struck by lightning while harvesting wheat, authorities said. Images online show swathes of farmland engulfed by rainwater.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been removed from office on Sunday after a no-confidence motion brought against him succeeds by a vote of 174-0. This is the first time a no-confidence motion against a prime minister of Pakistan has been successful.

Islamabad has reported a dramatic surge in TTP-led insurgent attacks in Pakistan since the Taliban regained power in Kabul three years ago. The violence has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 Pakistanis, half of them security forces, across the country in the first 10 months of this year alone.
