The counterpoint to the Real Robot Genre (or rather, the genre Real Robot is a counterpoint to), the Super Robot Genre is a genre of science fiction — mostly Anime and Manga, but found in other mediums as well — focusing on a fantastic, Superheroic form of Humongous Mecha.

In terms of anime, I recommend either Armageddon or New Getter robo, although there isn't actually a proper direct adaptation of the original manga, only reimaginings that stay loyal to the tone and themes (which the original anime really doesn't). Thanks for the info!
