    • According to 2 sources
Vikings were seafaring people originally from Scandinavia (present-day Denmark, Norway, and Sweden), [ 3][ 4][ 5][ 6] who from the late 8th to the late 11th centuries raided, pirated, traded, and settled throughout parts of Europe. [ 7][ 8][ 9] They also voyaged as far as the Mediterranean, North Africa, the Middle East, Greenland, and Vinland (present-day Newfoundland in Canada, North America).
The Vikings were invaders and settlers who came from Scandinavia and travelled by boat as far as North America in the west and Central Asia in the east from about 700 AD to 1100. The word “Viking” meant “pirate raid” in the Old Norse language that was spoken in Scandinavia around the same period.
