The Super Bowl XXVII halftime show took place on January 31, 1993, at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California, as part of Super Bowl XXVII. In an effort to increase its profile after being counterprogrammed by an In Living Color special the previous year, the show featured a performance by Michael Jackson.

In a dramatic start to his set, Jackson was ejected onto the stage from below and stood frozen for 90 seconds. He then launched into a medley of “Jam,” “Billie Jean” (complete with moonwalk) and “Black or White” before concluding with the mushy “We Are the World” and the single “Heal the World,” surrounded by 3,500 L.A.-area kids.

The Cowboys defeated the Bills by the score of 52–17 in Super Bowl XXVII, but it was Jackson in the first modern halftime show that was the story of the day. He packed his set with the hits "Jam," Billie Jean," "Black or White," "We Are the World," and "Heal the World."
