To type special characters in Windows, hold the Alt key, type the number code associated with the special character you want using the numpad that's located on the right side of your keyboard. The row of numbers above your letter keys won't work.

The most straightforward way to type a special character in Windows is the built-in Emoji Keyboard, also known as Character Picker. It contains a massive selection of emojis, foreign alphabets, symbols, and kaomojis (emojis made with Japanese characters), and is much faster than googling a symbol to copy and paste. Press Win +. or Win + ;.

To type special characters, you can use the Character Map tool. Here is how to open the Character Map tool and use it in simple steps. Open the Start menu. Search and open “Character Map.” Find the special character you want. Double-click on the character. Click the “Copy” button. You can now paste the copied special character anywhere you want.

Place your screen cursor on the location where you want to insert the special character. Press and hold down the Alt key on the left side of the keyboard. On the numeric keypad, type the sequence of numbers (decimal code point value) that corresponds to the character you want to insert. Release the Alt key.
