The most common types of basketball courts are Hardwood Courts, asphalt, Synthetic and wood. Each type of surface has its own advantages and disadvantages. The type of court you choose will depend on a number of factors, including your budget, the amount of space you have, and your personal preferences.

The ideal surface for a basketball court is one that gives the ball the optimal bounce and yet enables player movement at the same time. This has resulted in, over time, a floor that had three distinct surfaces: wooden courts, concrete courts and asphalt courts.

Indoor basketball courts are almost always made of polished wood, usually maple, with 3.048 meters (10 ft)-high rims on each basket. Outdoor surfaces are generally made from standard paving materials such as concrete or asphalt. International competitions may use glass basketball courts.
