Wearing a cycling cap under a helmet helps keep sweat from trickling into your eyes, the sun from scorching your head and face, and even offers extra warmth in the colder months. The small peak of the cap is great for fending off the sun’s glare. Cycling caps are a thin, light layer that fits nicely under helmets.

If you can avoid riding in the sun between 11am and 3pm, do so, and it’s a good idea to wear a cycling cap under your helmet to protect the scalp, and wear sunglasses with UV protection to protect your eyes.

A sun visor will protect your eyes and face from the sun. So look for a helmet with this feature, preferably one that offers UV400 protection level or higher, as this will block out the UV rays from the sun. Additionally, some helmets have a reflective shield that is tinted to block the sun.
