The Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar, was built on an artificial island located 60 meters from the coast, on the south side of the city’s Corniche, over the waters of the Arabian Gulf.

The mission of the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) is to display, preserve and interpret Islamic artifacts, and to reach a maximum number of national and international visitors.

The collection includes rare manuscripts of the Qur'an, with some calligraphy written in silver ink, on pages with elaborate borders. The museum has conducted archaeological excavations in the Fustat area and has organized a number of national and international exhibitions.

The vast collection takes the visitor on a journey through all periods of Islamic history, displaying some of the most magnificent artifacts. These include finely carved woodwork, delicately decorated ceramics, and rare manuscripts.

Conceived by Pritzker Prize winning architect I.M. Pei, best known for designing the glass pyramid in the forecourt of the Louvre in Paris, the museum sits on a purpose-built island abutting Doha’s central waterfront promenade and is surrounded by MIA Park’s extensive green spaces.

The goal of the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) is to attract as many domestic and foreign tourists as possible while displaying, conserving, and interpreting Islamic artefacts.
