Oct 14, 2017 · We can invite people "to dinner" or "for dinner" but when the invitation is to a formal meal where there are probably quite a lot of people, "to dinner" is more likely. Formal: We would like to invite you to our celebratory dinner on Friday 20th October at 8pm.
