A focus group is a small-group discussion guided by a trained leader. It is used to learn about opinions on a designated topic, and to guide future action. A focus group is hosted by a moderator under the watchful eye of an observer. It takes the shape of a discussion involving 6 to 12 people who exchange their points of view. The facilitator's objective is to get the best, most-detailed information concerning the chosen subject. Focus group meetings stay concentrated on one topic where facilitators mine it using pointed, clear questions.
