• The cause is unknown however there are several factors thought to lead to testicular cancer. Those factors include:
• Men with undescended testes
• Family history of close relatives with testicular cancer
• Previous testicular cancer
• Congenital abnormality of the testes

There is no specific method of prevention. However testicular self-examination may help in early identification of any testicular changes.

If untreated for a prolonged period it may lead to

• Pulmonary embolism- During the later stages of testicular cancer, blood can clot in an artery in the lungs leading to shortness of breath
• Metastasis to other organs and lymph nodes
• Infertility due to impaired production of sperms because of malignancy
• Hypogonadism due to decreased testosterone production by the testes

Treatment options include radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery.

Medication

Chemotherapy: Therapy where the drugs are used to kill cells that are growing or multiplying too quickly.

Carboplatin . Cisplatin . Vinblastine . Paclitaxel . Bleomycin
