The string family is the largest family in the entire orchestra, with up to 60 players in the ensemble. It consists of 4 instruments of different sizes: The violin, the viola, the cello and the contrabass/double bass. In addition, the harp is also considered a part of the string family.

The string family of musical instruments includes a wide variety of instruments, ranging from the familiar guitar and violin to the exotic kantele and exotic lyre. Each instrument has its own unique sound and is capable of producing beautiful, complex music.

The string family forms the basis of the orchestra. While the band is made up entirely of wind and percussion instruments, the orchestra is made up mostly of string instruments and includes some wind and percussion instruments.

Of these four, the string family is typically the largest section, often comprising half the orchestra performers. The string section itself is divided further into four – or five – sections, depending on how you break it down.
