There are many different sound problems that can occur in the ear. The most common ones are hearing loss, tinnitus, and hyperacusis. 1. Hearing loss is the decreased ability to hear sounds: It can be caused by a number of factors, including aging, exposure to loud noise, and certain medical conditions. There are a number of treatments for hearing loss, including hearing aids, cochlear implants, and surgery. 2. Tinnitus is the perception of ringing, buzzing, or other noises in the ear: It is not caused by an external sound. The exact cause of tinnitus is unknown, but it is thought to be caused by damage to the inner ear. There is no cure for tinnitus, but there are treatments that can help to reduce the symptoms. 3. Hyperacusis is the decreased tolerance to sound: People with hyperacusis often find ordinary noises too loud, and loud noises uncomfortable or painful. The most common cause of hyperacusis is damage to the inner ear from ageing or exposure to loud noise. There is no cure for hyperacusis, but there are treatments that can help to manage the symptoms.
