Soccer, as we know it today, was invented in England. The Football Association in England established the modern rules of the game in 1863.

Although historical records indicate that some form of soccer was played nearly 2,000 years ago in China, Greece, and parts of Central America, there is one country credited with what we identify as soccer today. England is the first country to codify and identify soccer as the sport we recognize today.

The most admitted story tells that the game was developed in England in the 12th century. In this century, games that resembled football were played on meadows and roads in England.
