When you're setting up a Google Account with a non-Google email, we'll send a verification code to the email address you used to create the account. If you don't verify your address, you won't be able to create a Google Account.

If we notice something different about how you sign in, like your location, you might not be able to get a verification code through text message. If a text message with a verification code was sent to your phone, make sure your service plan and mobile device supports text message delivery.

You'll get an email when there's a security-related action taken on your account (for example, a password change). However, you may also get these notifications by text. Learn more about security notifications. You received a code by text (SMS) that you did not request. You can disregard and delete the text code that you received.

If you received an account verification email in error, it's likely that another user accidentally entered your email while trying to recover their own email account. If you didn't initiate the request, you don't need to take any further action.

Look for an email from Google with the subject line "Google Verification Code." If you don't find the email in these folders, add noreply@google.com to your address book, and request another password-assistance email. Still haven't received the email? Contact your email provider.

The Google Authenticator app can generate one-time verification codes for sites and apps that support Authenticator app 2-Step Verification. If you set up 2-Step Verification, you can use the Google Authenticator app to generate codes to sign in to your Google Account.

Tip: If you change your recovery phone or email, Google may still offer to send verification codes to your previous recovery phone number or email address for 7 days. If someone starts to use your account without your permission, this allows you to quickly secure your settings.
