Software is considered safety-critical if it meets one of the following criteria:
- Causes or contributes to a system hazardous condition/event,
- Provides control or mitigation for a system hazardous condition/event,
- Controls safety-critical functions,
- Mitigates damage if a hazardous condition/event occurs,
- Detects, report, and takes corrective action if the system reaches a potentially hazardous state.
