Reliability Engineers apply engineering principles and statistical methods to predict, prevent, and resolve issues related to system reliability. They analyze failure data, design reliability tests, develop maintenance strategies, and implement improvements.

Develop and implement maintenance strategies and reliability-centered maintenance plans. Analyze equipment failures and downtime to identify reliability issues. Work with the engineering team to design and modify equipment for improved reliability and efficiency.

The responsibilities of a reliability engineer include: Developing Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) processes for new and existing assets Performing data analysis to predict and curb failures before they occur Planning performance evaluation tests to determine potential production and safety risks

The primary role of the reliability engineer is to identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations. This broad primary role can be divided into three smaller, more manageable roles: loss elimination, risk management and life cycle asset management (LCAM).

Reliability engineers aim to avoid failures in production systems. They compare pieces of equipment, individual mechanical components and manufacturing processes to determine which combination of parts creates the most reliable and fail-safe system. Reliability engineers also assess the safety risks associated with equipment failure.
