Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling is planning to create a foundation aimed at helping improve the social mobility of disadvantaged young people. The Sunday Times reported Sterling was still working on the details of the project, but that the England player was likely to contribute more than £1m.

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has confirmed he is setting up a new charityto support disadvantaged young people. The foundation – which Sterling revealed in an interview with The Sunday Times – could enjoy backing of over £10 million, with contributions coming from City, personal sponsors, and the footballer himself.

The former Manchester City star will pay for 14 students to go to university, as the Raheem Sterling Foundation partners with the University of Manchester and Kings College London. The aim of the brilliant scheme is to close the attainment gap for Black British students, increase social mobility, and support equal access to higher education.

NOTABLE CHARITY WORK AND ACTIVISM Sterling has been a vocal advocate in the fight against racism for a number of years, having suffered from targeted abuse by the paparazzi early in his life. In October 2020, Sterling announced he’d be setting up a charity to help underprivileged kids.
