In a psychology program, you’ll complete general education requirements, upper-division psychology classes, and electives. Depending on the program, you may also gain hands-on experience through an internship. Bachelor’s programs require a minimum of 120 credits and typically take four years for full-time students.

Requirements for a major in Psychology are 41 semester hours of courses in the major including Psychology 222, 232, 260, 267, 330, 368 (or 370 as of Fall 2021), 369, 461, 463 and 480; three psychology electives chosen from additional psychology offerings; Mathematics 212 and eight semester hours of science are required (Biology 111 is required and Biology 221 strongly recommended).

A total of 40 credits in psychology (including prerequisites), from which students majoring in psychology are expected to choose, in consultation with their advisors, a range of courses that covers the basic processes in psychology. Students must earn a grade of C- or better in each course.

Upon declaring Psychology as a major or minor, students must complete with a grade of “C-” or higher PSY 101, PSY 252 and PSY 257. Although PSY 101, PSY 252 and PSY 257 are prerequisites for most Psychology courses, PSY 252 may be taken concurrently with other courses.
