This is a situation that Christians in the past would have described as being “providentially hindered”. The phrase described the fact that God in his providence sometimes prevents us from gathering to worship with his people.

From the NT occurrence, the Greek word carries the idea of provision that is made by forethought, in this case by a man, not God. However, if we apply this to God, it would be that God provided something for us specifically for our benefit. So the phrase “providentially hindered” would mean God, by His foresight, made us miss a worship service.
