A project specification document (PSD) is a living document that outlines the scope of a project. It includes the project’s objectives, deliverables, timeline, and budget. The project specification document is created during the planning phase of a project and is reviewed and updated throughout the project’s lifecycle.

Provided by the Construction Specification Institute. This is the written part of the Contract Documents and defines the quality, construction system, and workmanship. They compliment the Working Drawings and prepared by the ARCHITECT and CONSULTANTS as a Basic Service.

Many think of specifications as a written construction documents. Specifications communicate the type and quality of materials while drawings communicate the quantity and layout. But it's important to know that specifications don't equal project manual, but instead it's a primary component of a project manual.
