  1. The smallest and most densely populated of Canada’s 10 provinces, the island has three counties: Prince, Queens, and Kings. In 1997 the 8-mile- (12.9-km-) long Confederation Bridge was inaugurated. It is the world’s longest bridge over waters that freeze over in winter and connects the island to the neighbouring Canadian province of New Brunswick.
