A supervisor oversees the day-to-day performance of employees. Depending on the company, a supervisor may manage a team, a shift or an entire department. Successful supervisors have excellent organizational and communication skills.

Supervisors are responsible for overseeing employees’ work and identifying potential hazards, helping to prevent accidents and injuries. They must also ensure that employees understand and adhere to company safety policies and procedures, contributing to a safe and compliant work environment.

Supervision is a process that involves a manager meeting regularly and interacting with staff to review their work. Supervision is not about the exercise of power over another person – whilst it can help to manage performance, it is also, equally, a way of helping the supervisee to develop new skills, experience and confdence in their role.
