Sagittarius A* is a supermassive black hole located at the center of our spiral galaxy, the Milky Way. It is mostly dormant and only occasionally absorbs gas or dust, but nonetheless has an estimated mass millions times that of our sun. The Milky Way’s central black hole lies at a distance of 26,673 ± 42 light years from Earth in the direction of Sagittarius constellation, near the border with Scorpius. The Sagittarius Stream is a long, complex structure made of stars that wrap around the Milky Way galaxy in an orbit that nearly crosses the galactic poles.
