Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the WTA’s Player of the Year following a remarkable 2024 season, which included four titles. It is the first time Sabalenka has won the award, which is voted on by the international tennis media, with Iga Swiatek clinching the honor the previous two years. Sabalenka retained her Australian Open crown in January, before securing her maiden US Open title and third career Grand Slam singles triumph. The 26-year-old also collected wins at the Cincinnati Open in August before becoming the first female player to win the Wuhan Open three times. Sabalenka rose to the top of the world rankings for the second time in her career in October, ending Swiatek’s 11-month stint at world number one. The Belarusian star will finish the year as world number one following her exploits at the WTA Finals, where she reached the semifinals before losing to Coco Gauff. Sabalenka finished the season with an impressive 56-14 record, despite missing Wimbledon through injury and deciding against competing at the Olympics.
