The Belgium international, 32, limped off 23 minutes into City's 3-0 Premier League win at Burnley on 11 August.

Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco said on Thursday that De Bruyne has a groin problem and that it was safer not to call him up for national duty. Tedesco is counting on a fully fit De Bruyne at the European Championship this summer. De Bruyne had hamstring surgery in mid-August after he was injured on the opening day of the English Premier League.

De Bruyne has made only four starts in all competitions since making his return to action last month, having been on the sidelines for five months with a hamstring injury. The 32-year-old suffered the problem on the opening night of the campaign, away to Burnley, and subsequently underwent surgery.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has not been included in the Belgium squad for friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and England this month because of a groin strain. The 32-year-old has also been ruled out of City's FA Cup quarter-final with Newcastle United on Saturday.
