The tiny Kitty Hawk Flyer seats just one person in a central pod, flanked by 10 propellers. Powered by batteries, it can fly up to 10 feet off the ground at speeds up to 20 miles per hour. Battery life is said to be 12 to 20 minutes, depending on speed and pilot weight.

The single-seater, all-electric, vertical take-off and landing vehicle was the company’s inaugural moonshot to develop an ultralight electric flying car designed for anyone to use. Kittyhawk built and flew 111 aircraft and conducted more than 25,000 successful crewed and uncrewed flights with its fleet.

The moonshot Kitty Hawk launched its Flyer program in 2015. The single-seater, all-electric, vertical take-off and landing vehicle is powered by 10 independent lift fans and operates between three to 10 feet off the water. The company’s aim was to make it light and easy to use — a goal it says it achieved.

The startup was run and co-founded by Sebastian Thrun, a former Google VP and fellow who led the development of Google's self-driving car and Google Glasses. In 2018, the company unveiled the Kittyhawk Flyer, an all-electric ultralight plane that could fly a single occupant up to 10 feet off the ground at speeds of up to 20 miles per hour.
