Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has had surgery on a hamstring injury that could keep him out of action for four months. The Belgium international, 32, limped off 23 minutes into City's 3-0 Premier League win at Burnley on 11 August.

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will be sidelined potentially for up to four months because of a recurrence of his hamstring injury, a huge blow to the team’s ambitions of retaining the Premier League and Champions League.

The inspirational midfielder is currently out of action due to a groin injury. He suffered the injury during the first half of City’s nil-all draw with Inter Milan in their opening UEFA Champions League league phase match last month.

De Bruyne sustained a groin injury during City's 0-0 draw at home to Inter in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night. Though the midfielder was initially able to continue, he had to be substituted at half time, with Ilkay Gundogan coming on in his place.
