KCCI's chief meteorologist Chris Gloninger is departing the station due in part to past threats he said stemmed from his coverage of climate change. Gloninger announced the news on Twitter in a statement Wednesday and said he will soon be saying goodbye to the local CBS station. On the 6 p.m. newscast, Gloninger said his last day is July 7.

KCCI Chief Meteorologist Chris Gloninger said goodbye to viewers Friday in his final forecast for Storm Team 8. Gloninger announced in June that he was leaving the station after two years to focus on caring for his family and his own mental health.

After spending the last two years as chief meteorologist at Des Moines news station KCCI, a CNN affiliate, Gloninger announced Wednesday he is resigning as one of the many faces of local TV weather.
