After His disciples wrangled about who was the greatest, Jesus surprised them with a call to become a servant of all. Christ is not just our Savior but also our Lord and Master. Just as He served His Father by caring for people, so we serve God by meeting the temporal and spiritual needs of those around us.

We are called to serve! Service means we are committed to serving others as Jesus called and exemplified. Our service is a response as we look at what we do. This is not about salvation; it is about our response to God. This is about duty; it is about allowing our love for the Lord to flow into us from Him and then to others around us.

Through his life, death and resurrection, Jesus Christ set the ultimate example of what it means to serve others. We look to his life to learn from him and follow his example. Every Christian is called to serve. This calling remains constant throughout our lives, even if the ways we serve change.
