Apple is the most valuable company ever, topping its and Microsoft’s prior mark of over $3.2 trillion.

It first became the world's most valuable company on Aug. 9, 2011, just 15 days before Steve Jobs resigned as CEO. It held the top spot for the better part of the last decade, and still isn't that far behind Microsoft. Apple also holds the distinction of being the first company to hit market caps of $1 trillion, $2 trillion, and $3 trillion.
