He said that the WWE is his “home,” and so he plans on still being involved in the sport, utilizing his “wisdom,” even if he will not enter the ring himself post-retirement. It was during the press conference that he explained the reason behind his retirement, stating he was “physically at [his] end.”

Cena said he feels like his personal “speedometer” is telling him that he has to be done before he turns 50 years old. He has also started to realize that when he returns to WWE for short periods in between other projects, such as filming Argylle, “it takes its toll more and more” on his body.

Legendary WWE Superstar John Cena admitted Wednesday that retirement from pro wrestling has been on his mind recently. In an interview with Sean Neumann of People, Cena suggested that his days as an in-ring performer are nearly numbered, saying: "I turned 47 this past year and I don't have much time left in the WWE."

Regarding how firm his intention is to retire within the next few years, Cena says, “Authentically over the years, my relationship with the WWE universe is based on honesty. And when I go, I’ll go. “I’m not saying I won’t be involved integrally with the WWE,” he continues, citing his work mentoring young talent.
