May 18, 2011 · Opened back cover case, dissasembled some parts like fan, battery, etc. and cleaned keyboard flat cable, and then inserted in it's slot, and then keyboard worked excellent, after 1-2 days of using again same problem with strange characters, so it seems definetely i'll have to replace keyboard.

Feb 25, 2025 · Go to system settings / keyboard / text input / edit / all input sources and use the + and - buttons at the bottom to make sure there is only one item on the list, and that the name of that item is US (or whatever language your keyboard is intended for).

Aug 27, 2024 · Seemingly out of the blue, my new Mac´s keyboard is changing some keys to different symbols. For example, the "at" symbol usually employed when hitting shift and the 2 key, now creates quote symbols. Not all keys are affected, but many of the number-punctuation keys are not using standard US English.

Sep 2, 2024 · Yes, at the Apple store, they attached an external keyboard and I was able to type in letters. When the external keyboard was disconnected, I was then able to type in letters. However, a few hours later it is back to typing in symbols. The option key was never pressed after the Apple store visit.

Currently 9:53am est 12/27/23, the laptop works with the external apple keyboard. But now I’m stuck on the Apple ID login page in the recovery page because when I submit the user and pass it asks for the password used on the laptop before getting erased and the keyboards are typing special characters again.

Aug 12, 2022 · Hello this is a brand new iPad and magic keyboard, when I type on my magic keyboard, sometimes )completely random= if types the wrong symbols. This “ is supposed to be the at symbol. I press the shift plus the 2 like I normally would on any keyboard and it still types the wrong symbol. It does it for every single symbol.

Feb 28, 2018 · I have a workaround for MacBook pro typing weird characters. Mine has a stuck option key. Apple has pretty much changed everything in my MacBook including the keyboard. It was fine for a little while but started the character thing again. I now use the sticky key identifier. Press the shift key 3 times pretty fast.
