  1. A Field Guide To Transmission Lines - Hackaday

    • There are typically two types of power lines that make up the grid, which can be divided based on their function. One group consists of smaller, lower-voltage lines (under 30 kV in most situations) which deliv… See more

    Dealing with Incredible Voltage Levels

This is where the voltages start to get a little bit out of hand. If you’ve noticed, so far I’ve referred to 10 kV as “low voltage” and 30 kV as “lower voltage”, each of which are well out of t… See more

  1. Transmission poles may alternatively be called power poles, hydro poles, telegraph poles, or telegraph poles, depending on their use. Transmission poles might support infrastructure such as fibre optic cables, overhead powerlines, electrical cables, and may sometimes ve used to support transformers or even street lights.

Relative to distribution poles, transmission poles are much larger — from 55 feet to more than 100 feet tall — with the lines higher off the ground. Some large transmission lines use steel poles and tower structures. In cases where a pole carries both transmission and distribution lines, the transmission lines will run above distribution lines.
