Proprioceptive sensory input is the sense that lets us know where our different body parts are, how they move and how much strength our muscles need to use. Proprioceptive input includes movements like pushing, pulling, climbing, lifting, carrying and any weight-bearing activities. We receive proprioceptive input from our sensory receptors located in our skin, muscles and joints. Proprioception allows us to apply more or less pressure and force in a task. Compression (weight-bearing or pushing, etc.) and traction stimulate proprioceptive nerves in the joints where muscles attach.
