  2. To do a plank for beginners, you need to12:
    1. Lie face down on a mat and place your hands directly under your shoulders. Spread your fingers wide and micro-bend your elbows.
    2. Push upon your elbows and lift your knees off the floor (or leave them down if you prefer). Extend your legs and keep your back straight and your hips level.
    3. Look directly at the ground in front of you and keep your neck in line with your spine. Press through your shoulders and dome your upper back.
    4. Drive your elbows forward and your feet back, and engage your core and glutes. Hold this position for as long as you can.
