MIPS technology mimics the brain’s protective structure by reducing rotational forces caused by angled impacts to the head. In a MIPS hemet the shell and liner are separated by a low friction layer which allows the helmet to slide, noticeably reducing trauma to the brain in the case of oblique impacts.

In a helmet equipped with the MIPS safety system, a low-friction layer allows the helmet to slide relative to the head, resulting in a reduction of the rotational motion that may otherwise be transmitted to the brain. In this way, the MIPS approach mimics the natural safety system of the human head.

The MIPS system is an interior layer of low-friction material integrated into a helmet. Its purpose is to enable the helmet to move slightly in response to an impact, thereby reducing the rotational forces that can lead to traumatic brain injury and concussion.

The Mips technology imitates the natural protection system using a rotational shell attached to the inside of the helmet. Upon impact, the helmet grips the ground while the Mips system holds your head and performs the necessary circular movements thus reducing rotational energy transmitted to the brain.
