Following a busy summer construction season, a full closure of Highway 1 through the construction zone is necessary for more complex construction work. From noon on Sept. 26, 2022, until 6 a.m. on Dec. 1, all through traffic on Highway 1 between Golden and Castle Junction will be routed via highways 93S and 95.

Work on the Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4 construction project will require a month-long closure of Highway 1 through the canyon just east of Golden during the spring 2021 shoulder season. This closure will allow crews to proceed with work that cannot be carried out safely during shorter interruptions, such as major excavation, piling and hauling.

The final push is on for construction of the Kicking Horse Canyon highway widening project east of Golden, prompting two extended closures of Highway 1. The Ministry of Transportation says these closures are set for September 18 to September 22 and September 25 to October 6. Traffic will be routed between Highways 93 and 95.

Starting April 19, the stretch of Highway 1 east of Golden, B.C., will be closed for a month. As Jill Croteau reports, the construction is part of the final phase of the Kicking Horse Canyon project, which will upgrade part of the highway from two to four lanes – Apr 18, 2022

With progress made over the winter on the Kicking Horse Canyon Phase 4 project, the full closure of Highway 1 through the Kicking Horse Canyon will be limited to five days in spring 2023.
