The final college football Saturday of September produced a number of near misses, but the top five teams survived and maintain their respective positions in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll. Georgia remains No. 1 for a second week, but the Bulldogs’ lead over No. 2 Alabama is trimmed to a mere five poll points this week.

Georgia football (2-0) has overtaken Alabama (2-0) for the No. 1 spot on the new AP Top 25 Poll after the Dawgs 33-0 win over Samford in Week-2.

Georgia is still No. 1. The Bulldogs (12-0) kept their top ranking in the College Football Playoff poll released Tuesday night.

Georgia is the new No. 1 Georgia’s rise in the polls continued as the Bulldogs took the top spot for the first time this season. Led by a dominant defense that has only allowed three points all season and pitched a shutout in Week 2, Georgia overtook conference rival Alabama at No. 1.

Georgia took back the No. 1 spot in The Associated Press college football poll from Alabama on Sunday after being bumped out last week by the Crimson Tide, who slid to No. 3. The Bulldogs received 32 first-place votes and 1,535 points in the Top 25, presented by Regions Bank, to easily reclaim No. 1.
